Applying and Blending Textures Tutorial

It seems after posting my country charm artworks,I've gotten quite a few e-mails requesting a tutorial on how I apply and blend textures, while I have made a tutorial on the subject before,I decided to make a detailed and lengthy tutorial.
This tutorial took me the last two days to compose, hope it answers some questions and can be of some help.

HA!!! I will NEVER look at a weed the same again. =)

Thanks for the lesson. I do what you do but I never duplicate the image, drag to top and change that blend mode. WhooHooo!! Learned myself something new to try.

Now I'm off to make sure I have grunge box 9.

Thanks again for being such a sweetheart!!

Thanks love!
I was outside walking around with my camera looking for weeds. LOL!!
They just cut the darn field day before yesterday. I will find an image and post it on my blog tomorrow with a link here.

Thank you for all the textures and for your tutorial. That's a lot of work and I, for one, really appreciate it.

Thanks, Jerry. Another fine tutorial from you.

Kimi;

Ha ha ha, you should be glad the weeds get cut, I've got plenty to go around in the fields outside my backdoor.

Sounds good, leave a message and link.

This is random. I posted a texture tutorial today but it's nothing like this. This is wonderful, Jerry. Mine is geared for the texture beginner with only one layer.
And I don't know PS like you do. Love this.

I knew I loved your textures ... now I know why ... Thank you x

I'm new to textures and this was very helpful. Having another duplicate background image further up the stack with a blend mode/opacity (to suit) really helps list the image. My first attempt was this...

Thanks again and I know i'll be back to download more of your great freee textures sometime soon.

Love you site, and I appreciate all the hard work you put into your images, tutorials and such. Thank you so much for being willing to share your "toys". I used this tutorial make a very mundane No Loitering sign look like a work of art. How fun!

I stumbled on your shop last week and finally had a chance to give this tutorial a shot. Loved it! Your tutorial was very easy to follow and the only thing I changed was to remove the background copy 2. For some reason I liked the image better without that layer showing. I probably messed up somewhere, but I was going for a creepy/grungy look for my skeleton and ended up with just what I wanted! Thank you so much for sharing your textures & talent!!
